Eight-port managed desktop switch

The Sophos CS101-8 is a Layer 2 managed switch with eight RJ45 ports and two SFP uplinks for small offices or branch sites. It supports up to 256 simultaneous VLANs from a 4096 ID pool and runs without a fan for silent desktop placement. An external 12V DC adapter powers the unit from 100-240VAC mains.

Sustained load behaviour

Typical idle draw is 3.76W and peaks at 6.96W under full traffic, so heat output stays low during continuous operation. The 20Gbps switching capacity handles aggregated Gigabit streams across all ten ports without oversubscription. An 8K MAC address table maintains forwarding state for growing device counts.

Build and connectivity

The metal enclosure measures 105mm by 240mm by 27mm and weighs 0.636kg, fitting on a shelf or wall bracket with no rack ears required. SFP slots accept 1000Base-SX/LX, copper RJ45 or DAC modules up to five metres. An on/off button allows a hard power cycle without unplugging the adapter.
