Application & audience

Southwire 20495820 THHN 6 AWG red stranded wire is built for 600 V AC building circuits in conduit or raceway. Electricians and contractors use it for feeder and branch runs where a single 19-strand copper conductor eases pulling through bends.

Practical limits of THHN

The PVC insulation with nylon jacket is rated 600 V AC and carries a nominal outside diameter of 0.25 in. THHN is not rated for direct burial, outdoor sunlight exposure or wet locations without additional protection. The 100 ft coil suits short pulls but longer continuous runs will need splices or larger reels.

Deciding specification

The conductor is 6 AWG stranded with 19 individual strands. If the design calls for a larger or smaller gauge, a solid conductor or a different voltage rating, this coil will not match the specification.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 100 ft coil or a different length for my project?

The 100 ft coil provides 100 feet of 6 AWG THHN wire in a single continuous run, so select it when your total circuit length fits within that footage.

What does the 600V AC rating mean once the wire is installed in conduit?

The 600V AC rating confirms the PVC insulation and nylon jacket are approved for circuits operating up to 600 volts in raceway or conduit systems.

How does the THHN designation and nylon jacket affect pulling this 6 AWG wire through conduit?

THHN indicates a PVC-insulated, nylon-jacketed conductor; the smooth nylon jacket reduces friction so the 19-strand 6 AWG wire pulls more easily through conduit bends.
