Compact marine VHF radio

The Standard Horizon HX210 is a 6W handheld VHF built for small-boat and personal watercraft use. It covers all USA, International and Canadian marine channels plus FM broadcast from 76 to 108 MHz. A high-resolution dot-matrix LCD and an E2O menu system keep operation simple. The radio floats face-up if dropped overboard.

Sustained transmit and battery life

Selectable output at 6W, 2.5W and 1W lets the user balance range against battery drain during long days on the water. The 1850 mAh Li-Ion pack powers extended receive periods, while the supplied desktop charger restores full capacity in roughly 3 hours. IPX8 rating means the unit survives immersion at 1.5 m for 30 minutes without leakage.

Upgrade path and limits

The HX210 replaces older fixed-mount or non-floating handheld sets where space is tight and a floating safety feature matters. The automatic strobe activates even when the radio is off, aiding recovery in low light. Buyers who need DSC calling, integrated GPS or a larger fixed-mount antenna connection should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How much heat or noise does the 6 W transmit setting produce during all-day use?

The radio has no fan and runs silently; only the speaker and backlight generate noticeable warmth at the 6 W setting.

What antenna or licence must I already have for the HX210 to operate legally?

The unit includes a built-in antenna; you only need a valid Ship Portable Radio Licence (or equivalent) to transmit on marine VHF channels.

Will the HX210 float and activate its strobe if dropped alongside my older fixed-mount VHF?

Yes — the IPX8-rated case floats face-up and the emergency strobe activates automatically even when the radio is switched off.
