Desktop WiFi upgrade for PCIe slots

The StarTech PEX867WAC22 adds 802.11ac wireless to a desktop computer through a PCI Express x1 slot. It targets builders who need dual band 2.4 / 5 GHz connectivity without using a USB port.

AC1200 throughput with 2x2 antennas

The adapter reaches a 1.17 Gbps link rate and up to 867 Mbps on the 5 GHz band using a 2x2:2 antenna configuration. Real world speed drops with distance, obstacles or heavy channel congestion.

Half height bracket included for slim cases

A low profile bracket is supplied so the card fits in compact chassis where a full height bracket would not clear the side panel. Buyers whose case only accepts full height brackets cannot use this card.

Questions about this item

Will the PCI Express x1 slot on my older motherboard run this 802.11ac card at full speed?

The adapter uses a PCI Express x1 interface and supports up to 867 Mbps on 5 GHz; the slot provides enough bandwidth for that throughput.

How can I confirm the 2x2 antenna setup is active after installing the driver CD?

In the wireless utility the link speed should show 867 Mbps on the 5 GHz band, indicating both transmit and receive chains are working.

Does the package include both the low-profile bracket and the antenna stand for a small-form-factor case?

Yes, the box contains the Wi-Fi adapter, two 5 dBi dual-band antennas, one antenna stand, one low-profile bracket, a driver CD and an instruction manual.
