  • Realtek RTL8126 chip enables 5G/2.5G speeds over existing Cat5e cabling

Two-Port 5G PCIe Adapter

This StarTech PR25GR-NETWORK-CARD adds two 5 Gbps Ethernet ports to a desktop or server through a PCI Express slot. It uses a Realtek RTL8126 controller and supports PCIe 3.1 across x1, x2, x4, x8 or x16 slots. Both full-height and low-profile brackets are included for universal fit.

Suits Builders Needing Dual Multi-Gig Ports

The card targets IT professionals and system integrators who want 2.5G or 5G connectivity over existing Cat5e cabling without a full infrastructure rewrite. Buyers who need fiber uplinks, single-port density or 10 Gbps throughput should look at something else.

Realtek RTL8126 Controller Decides Compatibility

Driver auto-installation covers Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server and Linux Ubuntu. The chip negotiates 10M, 100M, 2.5G and 5G link speeds automatically. Verify that your operating system and PCIe slot generation match these requirements before purchase.

Questions about this item

What real-world throughput can I expect from the 5 Gbps ports once the card is installed in my PC?

The card auto-negotiates at 5 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, 1 Gbps, 100 Mbps or 10 Mbps depending on the switch and cabling, so actual throughput matches the slowest link in the path.

Which PCI Express generation does the card use and what bandwidth ceiling does that impose?

It runs on PCI Express 3.1 and fits x1, x2, x4, x8 or x16 slots, so the host slot width determines the maximum throughput available to the two ports.

Will the included brackets let me mount this in a low-profile chassis?

Yes, a full-height bracket comes pre-installed and a low-profile bracket is supplied in the box for compact desktops or servers.
