What It Is

The StarTech PRIVSCNMAC13 is a 13-inch magnetic privacy filter designed for MacBook Pro 13-inch (2016-2018) and MacBook Air 13-inch (2018) models. It attaches via a built-in magnetic strip for quick installation and removal. The reversible design offers a matte side for glare reduction and a glossy side for clarity. A protective folder is included for storage when the laptop is closed.

Viewing Angle and Blue Light

The filter limits the viewing angle to 30 degrees on either side to protect on-screen data from side views in offices or public spaces. It also filters blue light in the 390nm to 480nm wavelength range to help reduce eye strain during extended use. The matte surface further cuts glare under bright lighting. No power draw or noise is generated by this passive accessory.

Webcam Cutout and Storage

A precise cutout aligns with the MacBook webcam so video calls work without removing the filter. The magnetic attachment allows the screen to be lifted or swapped in seconds. The supplied protective folder keeps the filter safe from scratches when the laptop lid is shut. This product does not suit users needing privacy filters for non-MacBook 13-inch screens or different model years.

Questions about this item

How do I install the magnetic privacy filter on my MacBook?

Align the built-in magnetic strip at the top of the filter with the MacBook's display bezel and let it snap into place. The reversible design lets you choose the matte side for glare reduction or the glossy side for clarity.

Will I need to replace the privacy filter or its magnetic strip over time?

The filter includes a protective folder for storage when the laptop is closed, which helps prevent scratches and debris from degrading the magnetic attachment or the screen surface.

At what viewing angle does the privacy effect stop working?

The filter provides a 30-degree privacy viewing angle; anyone viewing the screen from beyond 30 degrees off-centre will see a darkened display.
