Dual-bay SATA docking station

This StarTech.com enclosure holds two 2.5" or 3.5" SATA SSDs or HDDs at the same time. It connects to a host over USB 3.1 Gen 1, which operates at up to 5 Gbps. The unit supports SATA I, II and III drives and offers plug-and-play operation with hot-swap capability.

Suits multi-drive workflows

Technicians and archivists who regularly swap bare SATA drives for cloning, recovery or backup will benefit from the two independent bays. Users who need only a single bay, or who require interfaces other than SATA and USB 3.1 Gen 1, should look at a different enclosure type.

USB 3.1 Gen 1 host link

The external interface runs at up to 5 Gbps and uses a standard USB 3.0 cable included in the box. This bandwidth ceiling determines the maximum transfer rate you will see from any drive installed in the dock.

Questions about this item

How much desk space does the 2.4 by 5.1 inch dock need?

The unit measures 2.4 inches high, 5.1 inches wide and 4.5 inches deep, so allow at least that footprint plus room for the USB 3.1 cable and power adapter.

Which way do the 2.5 and 3.5 inch SATA drives slide into the bays?

Drives insert label-side up with the SATA connector facing the rear; push straight down until the drive seats firmly — forcing it at an angle is the common mistake.

What parts might need replacing after heavy use?

The USB 3.1 cable and the universal power adapter are the only external components that can wear out; the dock itself has no moving parts or fan.
