VGA extender 150 m Cat5

This StarTech ST122UTPA extender sends a VGA video signal with stereo audio over a single Cat5e UTP cable up to 150 metres. It suits installers who need to place a projector or display far from a PC or media player without running bulky VGA cables. The kit includes local and remote units, two power adapters and mounting hardware for quick deployment.

Resolution headroom and distance

At the full 150 metre reach the extender supports 1024 x 768, while 1280 x 1024 is available up to 100 metres and 1440 x 900 up to 50 metres. Higher resolutions or longer runs than those listed are not supported, so users needing 1080p or 4K at distance must choose a different technology. The fixed resolution steps mean you select cable length first, then pick the highest matching resolution.

Thermals noise and power

Each unit draws 9 V DC at 0.6 A from its included adapter, so total system power is modest and runs cool in typical office or classroom environments. The compact enclosures have no moving parts, making operation completely silent. No additional cooling or ventilation space is required beyond the small 3.3 by 2.4 inch footprint of each box.

Questions about this item

Will the ST122UTPA work with my existing Cat 5e UTP cable runs?

Yes, the extender specifies Cat 5e UTP or better cabling, so your existing Cat 5e runs are compatible for distances up to 150 m.

How can I verify the ST122UTPA is delivering the expected 1440x900 resolution at 50 m?

Connect a display to the remote unit, set the source to 1440x900, and confirm a stable image with audio; the LEDs on both units indicate link status and power.

Does the ST122UTPA package include both power adapters and the Cat 5 cable?

The box contains two power adapters (9 V DC, 0.6 A, centre-positive), local and remote units, mounting bracket, rubber feet and manual; Cat 5e cable is not included.
