SteelSeries Apex M800 QS1 keyboard

The SteelSeries Apex M800 is a wired mechanical gaming keyboard that connects via USB 2.0. It uses the proprietary QS1 linear switch with a 1.5 mm actuation point and 45 cN actuation force. The low-profile layout reduces finger travel distance. All keys are individually illuminated and fully programmable through SteelSeries Engine software.

Dual-processor sustained input

A second dedicated processor handles key-press scanning so the main controller never bottlenecks during extended sessions. N-key rollover guarantees zero ghosting across all 256 simultaneous keystrokes. The linear QS1 switch maintains consistent 1.5 mm actuation without tactile bump fatigue over long matches.

Upgrade from membrane or high-actuation boards

This keyboard replaces membrane keyboards or mechanical models with higher actuation points and slower reset. The jump is worth it when you need 25 % faster actuation than traditional mechanical switches and per-key lighting control. It is not for users who require a detachable palm rest or dedicated macro key clusters.

Questions about this item

How much power does the USB 2.0 connection draw when the Apex M800 runs all day with full backlighting?

The keyboard draws power directly from the USB 2.0 port; no external adapter is required for the individually illuminated keys and dual processors.

What must I already own to use the SteelSeries 64170 keyboard?

A Windows PC or Mac with a free USB 2.0 port and the SteelSeries Engine software installed to program keys and lighting.

Will the QS1 switches on this model feel different from the Cherry MX switches on my older board?

QS1 switches use a 1.5 mm actuation point and 45 cN force with a 3 mm throw, giving a shorter, lighter stroke than most traditional mechanical switches.
