Ready-to-use kit

The Sunbeam BC-0903 kit bundles a smart charger with four AAA NiMH cells rated at 1200 mAh each. It suits households that want to stop buying disposable alkalines for remotes, toys or wireless peripherals. The charger accepts both AA and AAA sizes, so one device covers the most common formats. Everything needed to start recharging is in the box.

Charge rates and safety

The unit plugs into any 120 to 240 volt mains supply at 50 or 60 hertz and delivers 900 mA to AA cells or 500 mA to AAA cells. A full AAA cycle takes roughly 1.5 to 3 hours depending on capacity. Negative delta V detection, a safety timer, over-current and short-circuit protection, plus reverse-polarity and defective-cell checks stop the charge automatically when batteries are full. Trickle current then holds them at peak voltage until removal.

Replaces single-use alkalines

Swapping disposable AAA cells for this kit pays off when a device drains batteries every few weeks. The included cells tolerate up to 1000 recharge cycles and have no memory effect, so partial top-ups do not shorten life. Users who only need occasional power for a rarely used gadget will not recoup the investment as quickly. Car and USB cords let the charger run from a vehicle or laptop, extending utility beyond wall outlets.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 1200 mAh AAA cells or look for a higher-capacity version?

The kit includes four 1200 mAh AAA cells, which is the maximum capacity the charger supports for AAA size; higher-capacity AAA cells would exceed the 1200 mAh limit.

What does the 1200 mAh rating mean when the batteries are in a device?

Each cell delivers 1.2 V at 1200 mAh, providing typical runtime for low-drain electronics such as remote controls, clocks or wireless keyboards.

Does the charger work from a car socket or a USB port, and is there a speed limit?

A car cord and a USB cord are included; USB charging is limited to 500 mA for AAA cells, so charge times match the 1.5–3 hour range.
