Detection capability
The SUNPOW OT-MD12 is a waterproof handheld pinpointer designed for metal detection and treasure hunting. It provides 360 degree side scan detection with a 3.5 inch depth range to locate metallic objects in soil sand or water. The probe uses a single button for power and operation making it straightforward for adults and children.
Suitability
This pinpointer suits hobbyists who want a compact probe for pinpointing targets after a primary detector signals a find. It is not suited for users who need a full size search coil to scan large areas from a standing position. Buyers who require a built in display showing target identification or depth numbers should look at a different class of instrument.
Deciding specification
The defining specification is the IP68 rated waterproof tip and scale section which allows full submersion for detecting in shallow water wet sand or mud. If your detecting stays on dry land only a non waterproof model may cost less but the OT-MD12 covers every environment without extra protection.

Questions about this item
Which SUNPOW pinpointer model should I choose for adults and kids who need 360° detection?
The OT-MD12 is listed for adults and kids and features 360° side-scan capability with a 3.5-inch detection depth for thorough metal pinpointing.
What does the 3.5-inch detection depth mean when I am actually using the wand?
It indicates the maximum distance from the tip at which the pinpointer can detect a metal target, allowing you to locate objects buried up to that depth in soil or sand.
What does the IP68 rating on this pinpointer cover in practice?
IP68 means the tip and scale section are waterproof, so the wand can be used in wet environments such as beaches, shallow water or rain without damage.
