Provides eight SATA or SAS 6 Gb/s ports with RAID 0, 1, 1E, 10 and JBOD over a PCI-Express 3.0 x8 slot
The Supermicro AOC-S2308L-L8E is a plug-in card that adds eight SATA or SAS 6Gb/s ports through a PCI-Express 3.0 x8 slot. It supports RAID 0, 1, 1E, 10 and JBOD for internal storage arrays in servers and workstations.
A standard bracket fits typical server chassis and the eight internal connectors accept common SATA or SAS cables without adapters. The x8 edge connector uses PCI-Express 3.0 signalling so bandwidth scales with the slot generation installed.
The card upgrades platforms limited to fewer ports or no hardware RAID, adding eight managed channels and RAID 10 redundancy. The jump is worth it when the workload needs more simultaneous drives than the motherboard provides.

The PCI-Express 3.0 x8 link caps throughput at the bus level, so the eight 6Gb/s ports cannot all run at full speed simultaneously.
It installs in a PCIe x8 or larger slot and uses a standard-height rear bracket with eight SATA/SAS connectors.
Seat the card in the PCIe slot, secure the bracket screw, then attach the eight internal SATA/SAS cables; the step often missed is connecting every drive to the correct port for the desired RAID 0, 1, 1E, 10 or JBOD array.
