2U barebone for dual EPYC

The Supermicro AS -2024S-TR is a 2U rackmount barebone designed for dual AMD EPYC 7002 or 7003 series processors in Socket SP3. It targets builders who need a general-purpose server platform with high core density and redundant power. Buyers who want a single-socket workstation or a tower chassis should look elsewhere.

Build quality and daily connectivity

The chassis includes a 920W Platinum-efficiency redundant power supply and twelve hot-swap drive bays for tool-less storage changes. Six low-profile PCIe 4.0 slots provide expansion in x8 and x16 configurations. Rear I/O supplies four USB 3.0 ports, one VGA, one COM port, a dedicated IPMI LAN port and two 1GbE RJ45 ports.

Practical limits of PCIe 4.0 and DDR4 3200

PCIe 4.0 bandwidth is capped at the 4.0 signalling rate, so newer devices that require 5.0 or 6.0 speeds will operate at the lower generation. Memory tops out at DDR4 3200 across the sixteen 288-pin slots with a 4TB ceiling. Network throughput is limited to 1GbE on the two standard LAN ports.

Questions about this item

What PCIe generation and lane widths do the six low-profile expansion slots provide?

The chassis provides six low-profile PCIe 4.0 slots: slots one, three and five are x8, while slots two, four and six are x16.

What are the chassis dimensions and weight for rack planning?

The unit measures 3.50 inches high, 17.20 inches wide and 25.50 inches deep, weighing 33.50 lbs.

Which components are not included and must be sourced before the first boot?

No CPU, no memory, no storage and no CPU heat sinks are installed; you must add up to two EPYC 7002 or 7003 processors, DDR4 3200 RDIMMs and drives yourself.
