Compatible Data General Ribbon Pack

This six-pack of black ink ribbons replaces the Data General 005-015-284BK cartridge. It fits a wide range of legacy dot-matrix printers from Data General, ADC, Cado Systems, Compucorp, Cromenco, Harris and other listed manufacturers. Offices running older accounting or invoicing systems can keep spares on hand without sourcing discontinued OEM stock.

Replaces OEM Part Numbers 284BK, 283BK, 1221BK.

The ribbon is built to match the original specifications for the listed part numbers. Upgrading makes sense when the existing ribbon fades, snags or produces uneven characters on multi-part forms. Buyers who need colour output or thermal-transfer printing cannot use this product.

Simple Cartridge Swap For Legacy Printers

Installation consists of opening the printer cover, removing the spent cartridge and snapping the new ribbon into the same guides. The most common issue is forgetting to tension the ribbon manually after insertion, which can cause smudging or skipped lines on the first few pages.

Questions about this item

Will the 005-015-284BK ribbon cartridge fit my Data General 4302 printer?

Yes, this ribbon is a compatible replacement for the Data General 4302, 4320, 4352 and other listed models. It matches the original cartridge dimensions so it seats correctly in the printer's ribbon deck.

What is the correct way to install the ribbon, and what step do people often miss?

Open the printer cover, remove the old cartridge, insert the new 005-015-284BK cartridge until it clicks into place, then manually turn the ribbon advance knob to tension the ribbon before closing the cover.

How often will I need to replace each ribbon in the 6-pack?

Replacement depends on print volume and density; the ribbon uses ink-soaked fabric that depletes gradually. When output becomes faint or uneven, install a fresh cartridge from the pack.
