1U Rackmount NAS for Edge and Branch Offices

The Synology RS826RP+ is a compact 1U rackmount NAS built for edge deployments, branch offices and remote business workloads. A quad-core AMD Ryzen V1500B processor running at 2.2 GHz powers the system with eight threads. It arrives fully assembled and tested with 16 GB DDR4 memory, 800 GB enterprise cache and four 8 TB Synology Plus drives installed.

800 GB Cache and Expansion Slot Add Flexibility

Two 400 GB Synology Enterprise Cache SSDs reduce latency and improve IOPS across the hard-drive array. A PCIe Gen3 slot accepts compatible 10 GbE or 25 GbE adapters, an M.2 SSD adapter or a combined M.2 and 10 GbE card. One RX426 expansion unit can be attached to double the bay count to eight.

32 TB Raw Capacity with Room to 192 TB

Four 8 TB drives deliver 32 TB of raw storage out of the box. Adding the RX426 unit raises the maximum supported raw capacity to 192 TB using 24 TB drives. The four-bay chassis limits internal growth without the expansion unit, and the four 1 GbE ports cap network throughput unless a faster adapter is installed in the PCIe slot.

Questions about this item

How long will the 800GB enterprise cache SSDs last before replacement?

The two 400GB Synology Enterprise Cache SSDs are rated for continuous write workloads; their endurance depends on daily write volume, so monitor SMART health indicators in DSM to schedule replacement before wear-out.

What throughput ceiling appears first when all four 1GbE ports run at full load?

Aggregated 1GbE links cap combined throughput at roughly 1000 MB/s, which is below the CPU's 2000 MB/s sequential read potential, so the network fabric becomes the bottleneck under sustained heavy transfers.

How much heat and fan noise should I expect from the 1U chassis running 24/7?

The 1U rackmount design uses compact fans that spin faster under load; with four 8TB drives and cache SSDs active, expect noticeable airflow noise and exhaust temperatures approaching the 35 °C operating limit in warm racks.
