  • Low self-discharge under 1 % per year
  • Non-flammable inorganic electrolyte for safety

Tadiran TL-4902/S 1/2 AA lithium battery

The Tadiran TL-4902/S is a 3.6 V 1/2 AA lithium thionyl chloride cell rated at 1.2 Ah. It is intended for low-current devices such as utility meters, alarm sensors, data loggers and industrial electronics that need long-term primary power.

Long shelf life and wide temperature range

A self-discharge rate below 1 % per year at 20 °C and a shelf life exceeding 10 years let the cell sit in spare stock or installed equipment without frequent replacement. The operating range from -60 °C to +85 °C and resistance to humid environments suit outdoor and harsh-industrial deployments.

Button-top termination

The button-top positive terminal fits standard 1/2 AA holders measuring up to 14.5 mm diameter and 25.2 mm height. The cell is not rechargeable; attempting to charge it can cause leakage or rupture. Verify the device requires a primary 3.6 V lithium cell before installation.

Questions about this item

Does the Tadiran TL-4902/S need recharging or replacement after a set period?

This lithium thionyl chloride cell is not rechargeable; once its 1.2 Ah capacity is depleted it must be replaced, and it retains over 99% capacity after 10 years of storage at 20°C.

What continuous current limit will the TL-4902/S hit first during long-term use?

The maximum recommended continuous current is 20 mA; sustained loads above this level will reduce available capacity and voltage stability.

How much heat or self-discharge does the TL-4902/S produce when operated all day at room temperature?

Self-discharge is below 1% per year at 20°C, and the cell operates from -60°C to +85°C without venting or pressurisation, so heat build-up is minimal in typical indoor use.
