SKU CH-1DNK-1YRND

3.6 V AA lithium thionyl chloride cell with 2.4 Ah capacity, spot-welded tabs, 10-year shelf life and −60 °C to +85 °C operation

  • 6 V nominal voltage for stable output throughout most of the application lifetime
  • 4 Ah capacity among the highest available in AA lithium thionyl chloride cells
  • 10+ year shelf life with less than 1 % capacity loss per year at 20 °C
  • Operating range -60 °C to +85 °C for reliable performance in extreme environments
  • Spot-welded tabs on each end for secure PCB mounting without soldering to the cell

What the product is and who it is for

The Tadiran TL-5903/T is a 3.6V AA lithium thionyl chloride primary cell rated at 2.4Ah. It supplies a high, stable voltage for long-life, low-drain applications such as utility metering, alarm systems and remote sensors. The spot-welded tabs allow direct PCB mounting without a holder. It is not rechargeable and must not be placed in a charger.

Practical limits of the chemistry and interface

The cell delivers a maximum continuous current of 100mA and a pulse capability of 200mA. Self-discharge is below 1% per year at +20°C, giving a shelf life of 10+ years. Operating temperature spans -60°C to +85°C. The non-flammable electrolyte is corrosive if the case is breached. Devices requiring sustained currents above 100mA or any recharging cycle cannot use this battery.

Installation and common issues

Solder the pre-welded tabs quickly with a temperature-controlled iron to avoid overheating the seal. Observe polarity strictly; the tabs are marked on the can. Do not attempt to recharge, short-circuit, crush or incinerate the cell. The most frequent failure is tab detachment or seal damage caused by excessive soldering heat or mechanical stress on the leads.

Questions about this item

Which capacity should I choose for a device that draws 100 mA continuously?

This single version provides 2.4 Ah at 3.6 V and is rated for 100 mA continuous current.

What does the 3.6 V rating mean when the battery is installed in equipment?

The cell maintains a high, stable operating voltage for most of its service life, even at -60 °C to +85 °C.

What termination style does the TL-5903/T use and what does it limit?

Spot-welded tabs on each end suit direct PCB soldering; the chemistry caps continuous draw at 100 mA and pulses at 200 mA.
