World's first APS-C 17-70mm f/2.8 zoom

The Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD is a high-speed standard zoom lens built for Sony E-mount APS-C mirrorless cameras. It covers a versatile 17-70mm focal range with a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, equivalent to 25.5-105mm on full-frame. The optical design uses 16 elements in 12 groups, including two GM aspherical elements, for sharp results across the frame.

Vibration Compensation with AI enhancement

The lens features a Vibration Compensation system enhanced with AI technology to deliver steady images and smooth video footage during handheld shooting. The constant f/2.8 aperture maintains consistent exposure throughout the 4.1x zoom range, reducing the need to raise ISO in lower light. The RXD stepping motor provides quiet autofocus operation suitable for both stills and video recording.

Bundle adds filters, cleaning and software

The package includes a ProOptic 67mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit, a complete optics care and cleaning kit, a universal lens cap tether, lens cleaner and a lens pouch. A Mac software kit is also supplied for additional workflow tools. The lens itself ships with a flower-shaped hood, front and rear caps, and is backed by a Tamron six-year limited warranty.

Questions about this item

How do I attach the 67mm filters in the bundle to the lens barrel?

Screw each filter onto the front 67mm thread; the flower-shaped hood then mounts over the filter so vignetting is avoided at 17mm.

What will need replacement after extended use of the vibration compensation system?

The VC unit is sealed inside the 12-group barrel; no user-serviceable parts are expected to wear out under normal shooting.

At what focal length does the 4.1x zoom ratio reach its telephoto limit?

The zoom stops at 70mm, giving a 105mm full-frame equivalent field of view.
