Normal prime for Nikon FX

The Tamron SP 45mm f/1.8 Di VC USD is a fast normal prime designed for Nikon F-mount FX-format DSLRs. It also covers DX bodies, where the field of view equals a 67.5 mm equivalent focal length. The f/1.8 maximum aperture supports low-light shooting and shallow depth of field. A USD ultrasonic motor delivers quiet autofocus with a minimum focus distance of 11.4 inches.

Suited to low-light and close-up work

Photographers who need a bright normal lens with vibration compensation and 1:3.4 maximum magnification will find this model effective. The fluorine-coated front element resists water and fingerprints during handheld use. Buyers who require a zoom range or a wider maximum aperture should consider other options. The lens lacks weather-sealing details, so users in heavy rain may prefer a sealed alternative.

f/1.8 aperture with VC stabilization

The defining specification is the f/1.8 maximum aperture combined with Tamron's VC vibration compensation system. This pairing allows handheld shooting at slower shutter speeds in dim conditions while maintaining a bright viewfinder image. The nine-blade rounded diaphragm produces smooth background blur when the aperture is stopped down slightly. This combination distinguishes the lens from slower or non-stabilised primes.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 45mm f/1.8 or the 67.5mm equivalent for my Nikon?

The lens is a 45mm prime; on DX bodies it gives a 67.5mm equivalent view, so you do not pick between versions — the same lens covers both.

What does the f/1.8 aperture deliver in everyday shooting?

The f/1.8 maximum aperture lets you shoot in lower light and gives shallow depth of field for subject separation, with a minimum focus distance of 11.4 inches.

How does the Nikon F mount affect what the lens can do?

The F mount fits FX and DX Nikon DSLRs; on DX the 45mm focal length becomes a 67.5mm equivalent, while the f/1.8 aperture and VC stabilisation work on both formats.
