Questions about this item

What practical speed does the USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet adapter reach on a Gigabit network?

The adapter delivers practical speeds over 700Mbps when connected to a USB 3.0 port and a Gigabit network, powered by the ASIX AX88179 chipset.

What physical port and controller issues should I check before using this adapter?

It requires a USB 3.0 Type-A port; avoid Lenovo Yoga 2 or 3 because their USB 3.0 controller causes compatibility problems.

How do I install drivers on Windows and Linux, and what step often fails?

On Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 7 or XP, drivers install automatically via Windows Update if an internet connection already exists; on Linux kernel 3.9 or newer support is built-in, while kernels 2.6 to 3.8 need manual compilation.
