Coupling Flange for 1-1/8 in Shafts

The Tb Wood'S 7S118 Sure-Flex sleeve coupling flange connects a 1-1/8 inch round keyed shaft in power transmission systems. Cast iron construction suits compressors, conveyors, motors and pumps. The hub diameter measures 2 13/16 inches with a 1 inch body length and a 1 27/32 inch length through bore. Bore tolerance is held to +0.0005 / +0.0015 inches.

Upgrade from Worn or Undersized Flanges

Replace a damaged flange when vibration, keyway wear or bore elongation exceed the stated tolerance. The jump is worth it when the drivetrain demands the full 940 in-lb torque rating at speeds up to 5,250 RPM. A new flange restores the original alignment and torque capacity without changing the coupling size or hub geometry.

Limits of the Sure-Flex 7S Interface

The size 7S flange fixes the outside diameter at 4 5/8 inches and the hub at 2 13/16 inches, so it cannot mate with larger or smaller coupling halves. Maximum speed and torque are bound by the sleeve material and the cast iron hub, not by this flange alone. Buyers needing higher RPM, greater torque or a different bore size must change the complete coupling assembly.

Questions about this item

What shaft diameter does the 1-1/8 in bore accept?

The bore fits a 1-1/8 in shaft with a tolerance of +0.0005 in to +0.0015 in and a standard keyway.

How is the flange mounted and what step is often missed?

Slide the flange onto the shaft, align the key in the keyway, then tighten the set screws; the step often missed is torquing the set screws to the manufacturer's specification.

Which part wears out and needs replacement?

The flexible sleeve element between the two flanges absorbs misalignment and torque spikes; it is the wear item and should be inspected and replaced periodically.
