8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch

The Tenda SG108-V4.0 is an unmanaged eight-port Gigabit Ethernet switch built for home and small-office networks. It connects PCs, NAS devices, IP cameras, printers, game consoles and smart TVs through auto-negotiating RJ45 ports. No configuration or software is required, and the fanless metal chassis runs silently on a desktop or wall-mounted.

Wire-Speed 1000 Mbps Limit

Each port supports 10, 100 and 1000 Mbps speeds with full wire-speed forwarding across the internal fabric. Jumbo frames up to 9216 bytes pass through without fragmentation. The switch draws a maximum of 3 Watts, so it operates from a small external adapter without active cooling. Uplink throughput is capped at 1000 Mbps per port, so aggregated traffic above that rate will queue.

Upgrade from 10/100 Hubs

Replacing a legacy 10/100 hub or switch removes the 100 Mbps bottleneck for every attached device, giving file transfers, backups and camera streams the full Gigabit path. The jump is worth it whenever multiple endpoints simultaneously move large files or stream high-bitrate video. It does not add PoE power for access points or phones, so buyers who need powered ports should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 8-port desktop model or a larger rackmount version for a small office?

This unit provides eight auto-negotiating RJ45 ports in a compact desktop chassis, so it fits on a shelf and handles up to eight wired devices without needing a rack.

What does the 1000 Mbps headline speed actually deliver when I connect my PC and NAS?

Each port negotiates at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps and forwards at wire speed, so a PC-to-NAS link runs at full gigabit throughput with 9216-byte jumbo frame support.

Is the RJ45 uplink limited to 100 Mbps or can it pass full gigabit traffic?

The uplink ports are the same eight RJ45 interfaces, each capable of 1000 Mbps, so no separate slower uplink bottleneck exists.
