Precision Lens Control for RED DSMC
The Teradek RT Smartknob Wired Smart Lens Controller is built for camera operators using RED DSMC and DSMC2 bodies. It delivers standalone focus, iris, shutter and ISO control over Canon EF and Nikon AF lenses without requiring a separate receiver. Hot keys along the knob surface map RED camera commands for fast access during shoots.
Upgrade from Manual Follow Focus
This unit replaces standard manual follow-focus systems by adding motorised precision and direct camera-menu integration. The jump is worth it when you need repeatable focus pulls, electronic iris control and the ability to adjust shutter speed or ISO from the hand controller. It also removes the extra receiver box required by many wireless lens-control kits.
Wired Canon EF and Nikon AF Limitation
Practical limits come from the wired connection and the lens mounts supported. Only Canon EF and Nikon AF lenses with internal motors can be driven directly. Controlling Teradek brushless motors demands an additional Latitude motor receiver. The physical tether restricts operating distance compared with wireless alternatives.

Questions about this item
Does the Smartknob need a separate power supply to run?
The controller draws power directly from the RED DSMC or DSMC2 camera body through the wired connection, so no external battery or power adapter is required.
Which camera menu settings can the side hot keys be mapped to?
The built-in hot keys along the knob can be assigned to any RED camera command, including shutter speed, ISO and other menu functions, for quick access while shooting.
How do I keep the Canon EF or Nikon AF lens contacts working reliably?
Keep the lens mount and electronic contacts clean and free of dust; the Smartknob relies on the lens's internal motors, so a solid electrical connection is essential for accurate focus and iris control.
