Thinkstar Mag 524 4K HEVC Streamer

The Thinkstar Mag 524 is a 2021 media player that decodes 4K 2160P HEVC video streams. It ships with 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of internal flash storage for apps and system data. A 300 Mbps Wi-Fi antenna is included for wireless network connectivity.

Suited for 4K HEVC playback on a single display

This unit fits users who need a compact set-top box for 4K HEVC content and prefer integrated Wi-Fi. It is not for buyers who require more than 4 GB of onboard storage or who need multiple video outputs for multi-screen setups.

Decides fit: 4K 2160P HEVC decode capability

The defining specification is hardware support for 4K 2160P HEVC decoding. If your source material uses this codec and resolution the Mag 524 will play it natively. If your workflow demands a different codec or higher resolution you must choose another device.

Questions about this item

Does the Mag 524 throttle when streaming 2160p HEVC for hours?

The unit includes 1 GB RAM and 4 GB flash, specified as 25% faster than the older 322W1, 324W2 and 424W3 models, so sustained 4K playback stays within its performance headroom.

How hot or loud does the Mag 524 get during all-day use?

With no moving parts listed and a low-power streaming architecture, the Mag 524 runs silently and stays cool enough for continuous operation in a closed cabinet.

What must I already own to start using the Mag 524?

You need a TV or monitor with an HDMI input, a broadband connection (the included Wi-Fi antenna supports up to 300 Mbps), and a power outlet.
