The Third Reality ZigBee sensor monitors the open or closed state of a door or window and reports it to a compatible hub. It is designed for homeowners who want a simple, battery-powered contact sensor that integrates with existing ZigBee ecosystems such as SmartThings, Hubitat or Echo devices with a built-in ZigBee hub.

Hub-dependent installation with flexible mounting

The sensor requires a ZigBee coordinator — either a dedicated hub or a supported Echo device — and cannot operate as a standalone Wi-Fi or Bluetooth device. Two AAA alkaline batteries are included and power the unit for up to two years, removing the need for wiring or a nearby outlet. The package supplies double-sided tape and screws so the two parts can be adhered or screwed to the door and frame with a horizontal gap no larger than 5/8 inches.

Low-power operation and battery alerts

The sensor draws minimal current from the two 1.5 V AAA cells, enabling the quoted two-year lifespan under normal use. When paired with a Third Reality hub or speaker, the companion app reports the remaining battery level and keeps a history log of open and close events.
