ABB 54715 C Tap for Copper
The ABB 54715 C Tap is a copper compression connector rated for 600 V. It suits electricians and installers joining branch and run conductors in residential, commercial or light industrial wiring. The gray colour code and die code 29 identify the correct crimp tool setting for reliable terminations.
Conductor range and standards
The connector accepts main conductors from 8 AWG to 6 AWG and branch conductors from 12 AWG to 8 AWG. Maximum tap wire size is 8 AWG with a minimum of 12 AWG. It meets UL standard E9809 and carries a plain copper finish for direct burial or exposed locations. Compatible Grainger part numbers are 3LJ70, 3LJ75, 3LJ83 and 3LJ87.
Crimp installation notes
Installation requires a crimp tool matched to die code 29; using the wrong die or insufficient compression creates high-resistance joints. Verify conductor sizes fall within the 12 AWG to 6 AWG window before crimping. The part is not suited for aluminium conductors or voltages above 600 V.

Questions about this item
Will the crimp connection on the 54715 C Tap need re-crimping or replacement after years of vibration?
The copper C tap is designed for a permanent crimp termination; when installed with the correct die code 29 tool, the joint remains secure without scheduled re-crimping.
What stops me from running the 54715 C Tap continuously at its 600 V rating?
The connector is rated for 600 V maximum; sustained operation at that voltage is within its design limit as long as wire sizes stay between 8 AWG and 6 AWG for the run and 12 AWG to 8 AWG for the tap.
Does the 54715 C Tap get hot or draw extra power when it carries load all day?
As a passive copper connector it consumes no power; temperature rise depends on the current through the 6 AWG to 8 AWG conductors, not on the tap itself.
