BLACKBURN 8H Split-Bolt Connector
The BLACKBURN 8H Split-Bolt Connector joins copper conductors from 8 AWG stranded down to 10 AWG solid. It is intended for electricians and technicians making permanent tap, run or parallel splices in residential or light-commercial wiring. The bronze body and hex-head design suit field installation with standard hand tools.
Wire-range compatibility 8-10 AWG
This connector accepts a minimum equal wire size of 10 AWG and a maximum equal wire size of 8 AWG. The same range applies to run and tap conductors. Selecting wire outside this 8 to 10 AWG window will prevent a secure mechanical and electrical joint.
Rated 600 V with 65 in-lb torque
The connector carries a maximum voltage rating of 600 V. Proper installation requires tightening the hex nut to 65 in-lb, which ensures low-resistance contact and limits temperature rise under load. The plain bronze finish provides corrosion resistance in typical indoor and covered outdoor environments.

Questions about this item
What does the 600 V rating mean once this connector is installed in a circuit?
The 600 V rating is the maximum voltage the connector is designed to handle safely in service. It must not be used on circuits that exceed this voltage.
How does the hex head and 0.5 in nut size affect the tooling and torque needed for a secure joint?
A 0.5 in hex socket or wrench is required. The manufacturer specifies a torque of 65 in-lb to achieve a reliable connection on 8 to 10 AWG copper conductors.
What clearance is needed to fit the connector given its 0.78 in length and 0.38 in width?
The body measures 0.78 in long by 0.38 in wide, so the enclosure or splice box must provide at least that much space around the joint for the connector and the tightened nut.
