Tiffen 405CP 40.5mm Circular Polarizer camera filter

What it is and who it fits

The Tiffen 405CP is a 40.5mm circular polarizer designed for lenses with that exact thread size. It serves photographers who want to deepen blue skies and cut glare from non-metallic surfaces in both colour and black-and-white work. The filter rotates freely so the effect can be tuned for each composition. Buyers needing a different thread diameter or a square-system filter cannot use this model.

Capacity and headroom

The polarizer handles typical outdoor lighting by reducing reflections and increasing contrast in skies and foliage. It reaches its limit when the sun is directly behind the camera or when extreme wide-angle lenses introduce uneven polarisation across the frame. Very low-light scenes may require exposure compensation that the filter itself cannot supply.

Build quality and daily use

The glass mounts in a lightweight aluminium ring that threads securely onto 40.5mm fronts without adding noticeable bulk. Standard cap and hood threads are preserved so existing accessories remain compatible. Rotating the front element is smooth and stays in position once set, making repeated adjustments practical during a shoot.
