  • Warmer tones on overcast days or with electronic flash
  • Improves flesh tones for natural-looking portraits
  • Converts 3400K lighting to 3200K balance for Type B film
  • ColorCore lamination between optical glass ground to 1/110000 inch precision
  • 52mm threaded ring accepts snap-in lens caps

52mm 81A Light Balancing Filter

The Tiffen 52mm 81A Light Balancing Filter decreases colour temperature by 200K to warm images slightly. It converts 3400K illumination to a 3200K balance for tungsten Type B film. The filter uses ColorCore technology with optical glass laminated to a flatness tolerance of 1/110,000th of an inch. A 5mm ring depth ensures compatibility with standard 52mm threads.

Suited for film shooters correcting cool light

Photographers using daylight-balanced film under 3400K light sources will achieve accurate 3200K colour rendition. Videographers needing a subtle warming effect for improved flesh tones on overcast days or with electronic flash also benefit. Users requiring neutral colour balance or shooting strictly in 3200K environments without correction needs should look at alternative filter types.

200K colour temperature shift decides fit

The single specification determining suitability is the 200K reduction moving 3400K sources to 3200K. If the prevailing light matches 3400K and the target balance is 3200K, this filter matches the requirement. Any other source temperature or desired shift means this specific 81A grade will not deliver the correct colour correction.
