Tiffen 62mm #23A Light Red Glass Filter

Tiffen 62mm #23A Light Red Glass Filter

The Tiffen 62mm #23A Light Red Glass Filter is a photographic accessory designed to increase contrast in black and white images. It fits lenses with a 62mm front thread and uses coloured glass to darken blue skies and water for dramatic effect. Photographers working in monochrome or experimenting with colour tonality will find it useful. It is not suited for portrait work where natural flesh tones are required.

Threaded 62mm attachment limits compatibility

The filter mounts only on lenses or adapters that provide a 62mm filter thread, so it cannot be used directly on smaller or larger diameters without step-up or step-down rings. Its light red colouration shifts tonal rendering in ways that are irreversible once captured on film or sensor. The effect is baked into the exposure, so post-processing cannot fully replicate or remove the filter’s contrast behaviour. Users needing variable filtration or neutral density control should look elsewhere.

Optical glass construction with precision threading

The filter is made from optical glass chosen for scratch resistance and minimal distortion, preserving sharpness across the frame. Precision-cut threads ensure a secure, light-tight fit that prevents flare from reflections between the filter and front element. The rigid glass substrate withstands regular handling and cleaning in the field without degrading. Its slim profile reduces the chance of vignetting on wide-angle lenses.
