77mm Black Pro-Mist #3 Filter

The Tiffen 77mm Black Pro-Mist #3 is a special-effects filter built for professional photographers and videographers who want a cinematic misty look straight from the lens. It threads onto any 77mm front thread and delivers the same Hollywood-grade diffusion used in motion-picture production.

Thermals noise and power

As a passive glass filter it generates no heat, draws no power and adds no audible noise to the shooting rig. The only physical impact is the minimal weight of the filter ring itself, which does not affect gimbal balance or handheld stability.

Replaces lower-strength diffusion or post-processing

It upgrades from weaker Pro-Mist densities or digital diffusion applied in editing, giving a stronger, organic halation around highlights that cannot be replicated convincingly in software. The jump is worth it when the creative brief calls for a pronounced dreamy atmosphere and the shooter prefers to commit the look in-camera.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 77mm Black Pro-Mist 3 filter on my lens and what step do people often miss?

Screw the filter onto the 77mm front thread of your lens until it seats firmly; the step many miss is cleaning both glass surfaces first to avoid trapping dust that shows up in the mist effect.

What maintenance or replacement will the 77mm Black Pro-Mist 3 filter need over time?

Wipe the coated glass with a microfibre cloth and lens fluid when flare increases; replace the filter if the coating scratches or the black-mist density appears uneven.

What limit appears first when using the 77mm Black Pro-Mist 3 filter continuously in bright light?

The #3 density adds noticeable highlight bloom and contrast loss, so the practical limit is the exposure compensation or ND you must add to keep highlights from clipping.
