Tiffen 82mm Soft/FX 3 Filter

The Tiffen 82mm Soft/FX 3 Filter is a circular camera accessory designed to soften fine details such as wrinkles and skin blemishes while preserving sharpness in larger features like eyes. It uses a pattern of tiny lenslets to create a subtle, dreamy effect suited for portrait photography.

Portrait photographers seeking gentle skin smoothing

This filter suits photographers who want a natural-looking reduction of facial imperfections without strong flare or contrast loss. It is not for shooters needing a neutral protective filter or those who require a stronger diffusion density for a more pronounced soft-focus style.

Consistent diffusion under continuous use

The optical construction maintains its designed diffusion characteristics during extended shooting sessions without shifting density or introducing unwanted artifacts. The durable glass retains its effect reliably across multiple takes in portrait or video work.

Questions about this item

Which lens thread size must my lens have to mount this 82mm filter?

Your lens needs an 82mm front thread to accept this filter directly.

Will this Soft/FX 3 filter reduce sharpness on a vintage manual-focus lens?

The tiny lenslets soften fine detail such as skin texture while leaving larger features like eyes sharp, so overall sharpness on older glass is gently smoothed rather than lost.

How can I verify the filter is producing the intended soft-focus effect after attaching it?

Shoot a close-up portrait at a wide aperture; wrinkles and blemishes should appear visibly softened while eyes and hair remain clearly defined.
