AL13SEB900 SAS backup drive

The Toshiba AL13SEB900 is a 900 GB 2.5 inch SAS hard drive that spins at 10000 RPM. It is built for backup workloads that need consistent sequential throughput. The drive ships new with Dell factory firmware installed.

Best for nearline backup arrays

This drive suits administrators who need a single 900 GB spindle for nearline backup or archival storage in a 2.5 inch bay. Buyers who require larger capacities or solid-state latency for random workloads should consider other media.

Sustained write behaviour

The 10000 RPM spindle maintains steady transfer rates during long backup windows. Sequential writes stay consistent because the SAS 6 Gb/s interface does not saturate at this spindle speed. Heat output remains predictable in multi-drive enclosures.

Questions about this item

What host interface does the 900GB 10K drive need to connect?

The drive uses a SAS 6Gb/s interface and requires a controller or backplane that supports that link speed.

Can the 2.5-inch SAS drive share a backplane with slower SAS drives?

Yes, the 6Gb/s SAS drive will negotiate down to the backplane speed while the other drives run at their own rates.

How can I confirm the 10000RPM drive is healthy after installation?

Run the vendor diagnostic to verify zero-hour SMART data and listen for steady 10K spindle noise.
