TP-Link N300 USB Wi-Fi adapter

The TP-Link TL-WN821N adds 2.4 GHz wireless networking to a desktop or laptop through a USB 2.0 port. It supports IEEE 802.11b/g/n draft 2.0 with a maximum data rate of 300 Mbps. A single internal omnidirectional antenna handles reception.

Suits older PCs lacking built-in Wi-Fi

This adapter works well for basic web browsing, email and video streaming on legacy hardware that only has USB 2.0. Buyers who need 5 GHz band support or higher throughput for large file transfers should look at a different class of wireless device.

300 Mbps peak rate on 2.4 GHz

The single-radio N300 implementation delivers up to 300 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band using MIMO technology. Encryption options include WPA2-PSK with AES for secure connections.

Questions about this item

Does the USB 2.0 interface limit the 300 Mbps wireless speed?

The adapter is rated for 300 Mbps over the air and connects via USB 2.0; real-world throughput depends on signal quality and overhead.

How hot or noisy does the TL-WN821N get during all-day use?

The adapter has no fan and uses an internal omnidirectional antenna, so it runs silently and stays cool under continuous operation.

What do I need on my computer for this adapter to work?

A free USB 2.0 port and an operating system that supports IEEE 802.11b/g/n drivers.
