What it does and who uses it

This plug-in mechanical timer uses a photocell eye to turn outdoor lights on at dusk and off after a selectable 2-8 hour window. It is built for homeowners who want automatic dusk-to-dawn control of security, landscape, patio or seasonal lighting without programming a digital schedule.

What the photocell and grounded outlet change

The integrated photoelectric sensor removes the need to adjust clocks for seasonal daylight changes. A grounded three-wire outlet accepts standard plugs and supports compact fluorescent, LED and incandescent fixtures, so mixed lighting loads can be run from a single timer.

Installation ease and common issues

Plug the unit into a covered outdoor receptacle, press the button to choose the desired off-time, then connect the light string. The mechanical dial can be stiff in freezing temperatures, and the sensor must face away from artificial light or the timer will not trigger at dusk.
