Product identity

The Transition Networks N-GXE-SC-02 is a 1000Base-SX fibre optic network card built for servers. It installs in a PCI Express 2.1 x1 slot and carries RoHS environmental certification.

Upgrade path

This card adds a gigabit fibre link to a server that lacks an optical port or needs to replace a failed copper interface. The jump is worthwhile when the cabling plant already uses multimode fibre and the host has a free x1 slot.

Interface limits

The PCI Express 2.1 x1 host interface supplies enough bandwidth for the 1000Base-SX standard. Distance and loss budget are governed by the multimode fibre specification, not by the card itself.

Questions about this item

What PCI Express slot size does the N-GXE-SC-02 require?

The card uses a PCI Express 2.1 x1 interface and fits any x1 or wider slot on the motherboard.

Which step is most often missed when installing this fiber NIC?

After seating the card and attaching the bracket screw, the LC duplex patch cable must be clicked fully into the SC transceiver so the link light activates.

When will the optical transceiver on this card need replacement?

The on-board 1000Base-SX transceiver is not field-replaceable; the whole card is swapped if the optics degrade after years of use.
