Professional navigation toolkit

This four-pack supplies each member of a group with a transparent base-plate compass for hiking, camping, military exercises or classroom map-reading lessons. The lightweight acrylic bodies resist water and magnetic interference while the integrated lanyards keep the units secure during active use.

Setup and common issues

No assembly is required; simply remove each compass from the packaging, attach the lanyard if desired and hold the unit level so the needle rotates freely. The most frequent error is tilting the base plate, which causes the needle to drag against the housing and give a false bearing.

Pre-purchase checklist

Confirm that your maps use a 1:24000 scale so the printed ruler matches the contour intervals you will plot. Verify that you can read the small degree markings without corrective lenses, because the dial has no illumination for low-light conditions. Ensure the acrylic material suits your temperature range, as extreme cold can make the housing brittle.
