The TRENDnet TEG-MGBSX is a Mini-GBIC SFP module that adds a fibre uplink to a switch or router. It carries Gigabit Ethernet or Fibre Channel traffic over multi-mode fibre at 850 nm wavelength. Network engineers use it to link aggregation switches across a building or campus.

Distance and connector decide fit

This module reaches 550 m (1800 ft) on multi-mode fibre and terminates with a duplex LC connector. The link runs at 1.25 Gbps for Ethernet or 1.0625 Gbps for Fibre Channel. If your run exceeds 550 m or your patch panel uses a different connector, this part will not work.

Plug it into any MSA SFP slot

The transceiver is hot-pluggable and draws power from a single 3.3 V supply inside the host port. Insert it until the latch clicks; removal is the same latch squeeze. The most common mistake is forcing an LC ferrule into a port keyed for single-mode or using a patch cord with the wrong polish, which kills the link.
