Converts 10/100 Mbps Ethernet to 100 Mbps multi-mode SC fiber for distances up to 2 km with 200 Mbps switching capacity
The TRENDnet TFC-FMSC converts a 10/100 Mbps copper link to a 100 Mbps multi-mode SC fiber connection. It operates as a standalone unit with a 100Base-T RJ-45 port and a 100Base-FX SC-type fiber port. LEDs display power status and link activity for both copper and fiber segments. The converter supports fiber runs up to 2 km (1.25 mi.) with a 200 Mbps switching capacity.
This converter upgrades a standard Fast Ethernet copper segment when the required link length surpasses the 100 metre twisted-pair limit. The jump is worth it when connecting switches or devices across separate buildings or floors where multi-mode fiber is already installed or preferred. It is not suited for Gigabit or 10 Gigabit backbone extensions, nor for single-mode fiber infrastructures requiring longer reach.
Installation requires only connecting the RJ-45 port to a 10/100 Mbps Auto-MDIX copper port and the SC port to a matching multi-mode fiber patch cord. No software configuration is needed. The main issue arises if the converter is paired with a TFC-1600 chassis system, as the two are not compatible. Ensure the fiber link uses multi-mode cable with SC connectors to establish a working link.

The fiber port uses an SC-type multi-mode connector for distances up to 2 km (1.25 mi.).
Plug the RJ-45 cable into the Auto-MDIX port and the SC fiber cable into the fiber port; the step often missed is verifying both link LEDs are lit before assuming the link is up.
No scheduled maintenance is required; keep the SC connectors clean and replace the unit if the power or link LEDs indicate a failure.
