Share a printer, scanner, hard drive or webcam between two computers with SuperSpeed USB 3.0 up to 5 Gbps and one-touch switching
The Tripp Lite U359-002 lets two computers share a single USB printer, scanner, hard drive, webcam or other peripheral. A manual button on the unit toggles control between the connected systems. No software or drivers are required for operation.
The switch removes the need to physically unplug and reconnect a USB device when moving between two workstations. The jump is worth it when both computers need regular access to the same peripheral and downtime from cable changes disrupts workflow.
The USB 3.0 interface caps total throughput at 5 Gbps, which both computers divide when the active port transfers data. Backward compatibility with USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices works, but legacy peripherals operate at their native slower speeds. High-bandwidth devices such as fast external SSDs will saturate the link.

Use a standard USB 3.0 Type-B cable from each computer to the switch upstream ports, and a USB 3.0 Type-A cable from the switch downstream port to the shared peripheral.
Connect the peripheral to the single downstream port first, then link both computers to the upstream ports; the button only toggles after all three cables are seated.
The mechanical push-button selector is the only moving part; after many switching cycles it can become stiff, at which point the whole switch is replaced.
