Compact Thunderbolt 3 Dock

This Tripp Lite U442-DOCK3-B docking station adds HDMI, VGA, Gigabit Ethernet, SD and microSD card readers, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports and a USB-C port with Power Delivery 3.0 pass-through. It supports 4K video at 30 Hz over HDMI and works with Chromebooks, MacBooks, tablets, smartphones and PCs that have a USB-C port supporting DisplayPort Alt Mode.

Plug-and-play setup

The dock draws power from the host USB-C connection and requires no external power brick or driver installation on modern operating systems. Video output only activates when the host port implements DisplayPort Alt Mode, so systems without that capability will not drive the HDMI or VGA ports. The single upstream cable also carries up to 45 W of charging power back to the host device.

Check host port capabilities

Verify that your USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and Power Delivery 3.0 before ordering, otherwise video and charging functions will not work. The dock measures 4.80 x 2.80 x 0.55 inches and weighs 0.20 lb, so confirm desk space and cable reach suit your layout. Ensure your power adapter can supply enough wattage for both the dock and the connected host.
