USB-C & Thunderbolt 3 dock

This Tripp Lite U442-DOCK8-GG docking station connects to a host device through a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 port and expands it into an eight-port workstation. Two HDMI outputs, three USB-A ports, one USB-C port, SD and microSD card slots are provided. The aluminium and ABS enclosure measures 4.33" x 0.45" x 2.32" and weighs 0.20 lb. No software installation is required for operation.

Dual-display users needing legacy USB ports

The dock suits professionals who want to drive two external monitors at up to 4K resolution while adding multiple USB-A peripherals and card-reader access through a single cable. It is not for buyers who need more than two video outputs, require DisplayPort or VGA connectors, or want a Thunderbolt 3 downstream port for daisy-chaining high-speed storage.

Dual 4K video at 30 Hz extended

The specification that decides fit is the extended-mode video limit: two HDMI displays can run simultaneously at 3840 x 2160 @30Hz, while a single display reaches 3840 x 2160 @60Hz. If the workflow demands dual 4K at 60 Hz, this unit will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

Does the dock get hot or noisy when powering two 4K monitors and charging a laptop at 100W all day?

The aluminum and ABS enclosure passively dissipates heat from the 100W Power Delivery port and dual 4K video streams; there are no moving parts, so it runs silently.

What must my laptop provide for the dock to deliver dual 4K HDMI output and 100W charging?

Your host needs a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 port that supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode and Power Delivery input; without both, video or charging will not function.

Will my older USB 3.0 flash drives and SD cards work at full speed through the three USB-A ports and card slots?

The three USB-A ports and the SD/microSD reader accept legacy USB 3.0 and UHS-I cards, operating at their native speeds without driver installation.
