The TROPRO AC1200 USB 3.0 Dual Band Wi-Fi Adapter adds wireless connectivity to Windows or macOS desktops and laptops. It supports IEEE 802.11ac/n/a on 5 GHz and IEEE 802.11n/g/b on 2.4 GHz bands. Compatible operating systems include Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, XP and macOS 10.9 through 10.14. Windows Vista is not supported.

What the dual band changes

The adapter delivers up to 867 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and 300 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band for a combined 1200 Mbps link rate. The 5 GHz band suits lag-sensitive gaming and HD streaming while the 2.4 GHz band handles general browsing and video calls. Security options cover 64 / 128-bit WEP, WPA-PSK / WPA2-PSK and 802.1x encryption. A dual band antenna and LED indicators for power and link activity are integrated.

The spec that decides fit

The USB 3.0 interface provides up to 10× the throughput of USB 2.0, so the host port must be USB 3.0 to reach the advertised 1.2 Gbps wireless speed. The adapter works with any 802.11ac/n/g/b/a router but will not function on Windows Vista. No Bluetooth capability is included.
