Wireless audio transmitter for 3.5 mm sources

The Twelve South AirFly SE is a Bluetooth 5.2 transmitter that plugs into any 3.5 mm audio jack. It lets you listen through wireless headphones or earbuds on aeroplanes, gym machines, tablets and other devices that lack built-in Bluetooth. The rechargeable battery delivers 20+ hours of playback and the unit can operate while charging via the included cable.

Bluetooth 5.2 range and codec limits

The transmitter uses Bluetooth 5.2 with aptX and SBC codecs for audio streaming. Its wireless reach extends to 10 metres or 33 feet, so you must stay within that distance of the source. It supports only a single pair of headphones at a time and cannot receive audio from a phone or act as a Bluetooth receiver for wired speakers.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the SE model or the standard AirFly for my AirPods?

The SE model supports Bluetooth 5.2 with aptX and SBC codecs and runs 20+ hours on a charge, while the standard AirFly uses an older Bluetooth version and offers shorter battery life.

What does the 10 metre range mean when I'm using this on a plane?

The 10 metre or 33 foot reach lets you move around the cabin or stretch at your seat without the audio cutting out, as long as the transmitter stays plugged into the 3.5 mm jack.
