Replacement Carbon Brushes for Electric Motors

Two pairs of carbon motor brushes sized 4 mm by 4 mm by 13 mm fit generic electric motors in power tools such as electric drills. They are sold new and weigh 2 g in total.

Critical Fit Dimension

The 13 mm thickness determines whether these brushes seat correctly in the motor holder. Verify the original brush thickness before ordering because an incorrect dimension prevents proper contact.

Thermal and Electrical Behaviour

New brushes restore consistent current flow and reduce arcing that causes heat build-up during normal operation. Replacing worn brushes also brings back the motor’s electric braking function.

Questions about this item

What does the 13 mm thickness mean when the brush is fitted in a motor?

The 13 mm thickness is the wear dimension; as the brush runs against the commutator it gradually shortens from this starting point.

What interface or standard governs these carbon brushes and what does it limit?

There is no universal standard; the brushes are sized to 4 mm by 4 mm by 13 mm and must match the holder dimensions of the specific motor.

What physical space is needed to mount these brushes?

Each brush measures 4 mm wide by 4 mm deep by 13 mm thick, with a total length of 32 mm including the lead and terminal.
