Product Identity

This Unique-Bargains gas spring provides 200N of force in a 450mm total length. It suits automotive hoods, toolbox lids and horizontally hinged panels that need controlled lift assistance.

Upgrade Path

It replaces worn or weaker struts that no longer hold a lid open or require manual propping. The jump is worthwhile when the existing support fails to extend smoothly or cannot counter-balance the panel weight.

Fitment Check

Verify the mounting points match the 180mm rod length and 8mm rod diameter. Confirm the 230mm tube dimension fits the available space and that the 20kg force rating matches the panel weight.

Questions about this item

What mounting points does the 450mm 200N gas spring require?

The rod measures 180mm long by 8mm diameter and the tube is 230mm, so the hinge brackets must accept an 8mm pin at those centres.

How do I install the gas spring and what step is often missed?

Fit the rod end to the moving lid first, then compress the unit to engage the tube end; the step people skip is aligning both brackets before tightening so the 200N force cannot twist the mounts.

When will the 200N lift support need replacement?

Expect gradual force loss over several years; replace the unit when the lid no longer stays open at 17.72in or requires hand assistance to hold position.
