Clip-on ferrite cores

This pack contains ten clip-on ferrite cores sized for cables between 3.5 mm and 5.0 mm outside diameter. Each core measures 13 mm by 25 mm and clips around the wire without cutting or soldering. They are designed to suppress RFI and EMI noise on power cords, audio leads, USB cables and similar wiring. The black finish suits most equipment aesthetics.

Suitable applications

Installers fitting driving recorders, RS-232 serial cables, headset leads or keyboard and mouse cords will find these cores a direct fit. They are not intended for cables thicker than 5.0 mm or for permanent through-hole mounting on a PCB. Buyers needing larger diameters or adhesive-mount styles should look elsewhere.

Critical specification

The 5 mm nominal size and 3.5–5.0 mm cable-range are the single figures that decide compatibility. If your cable falls outside that range the core will not clamp correctly and noise suppression will be ineffective.

Questions about this item

What cable diameters will the 5mm ferrite cores fit?

The cores accept cables from 3.5mm to 5.0mm (0.14" to 0.20") in diameter.

Can I clip these onto an RS232 serial cable without removing the connector?

Yes, the clip-on design lets you snap a core onto an RS232 cable or other fitted leads without unplugging them.

How do I confirm the cores are reducing interference after I install them?

Check for cleaner audio, steadier video or fewer data errors on the affected cables near the noise source.
