USB 2.0 7.1 Channel Audio Adapter

This compact adapter adds a 7.1 channel audio interface to any system with a USB 2.0 port. It suits users whose onboard audio has failed or who need a simple external sound solution for headsets. The device works with Windows 98SE through Vista, Linux and MacOS without requiring an internal card slot. It provides a straightforward upgrade for basic stereo or surround listening.

Plug-and-play build integration

The adapter draws power directly from the USB 2.0 connection so no external supply is needed. Its 3.5 mm microphone and earphone jacks free up the front-panel headers on a motherboard or replace a faulty rear-panel cluster. The 5.5 x 2.5 x 1.2 cm plastic and metal housing weighs 14 g and fits alongside other peripherals without blocking adjacent ports. No driver installation is mentioned for the supported operating systems.

Single-unit package

The box contains only the USB 2.0 sound card itself; no cables, discs or software bundles are included. This means the buyer must already have a headset or speakers with 3.5 mm plugs to use the device. The lack of bundled control software leaves audio settings to the operating system’s built-in mixer. Buyers who want virtual surround processing or equaliser profiles will need third-party applications.

Questions about this item

The adapter is bus-powered via USB 2.0 and draws its operating current from the host port; no external supply is required.

Does the 3.5 mm headphone jack get warm after all-day use?

The plastic-and-metal housing stays close to ambient temperature because the device has no amplifier stage that generates noticeable heat.

Which operating systems must the computer already run for the 7.1-channel adapter to work?

Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, Linux or MacOS are supported out of the box.
