A corded handheld linear imager that reads all major 1D symbologies at 100 scans per second and connects via USB without software
The UNITECH AS10-U is a handheld linear CCD imager that reads all major one-dimensional symbologies including UPC, EAN, Code 39, Code 128 and GS1 DataBar. It connects through USB, RS232 or keyboard-wedge interfaces and requires no driver installation. The visible red 632 nm LED illuminates codes at a 5 mil resolution across a 2.38 inch depth and 2.70 inch width field. At 0.26 lb it is light enough for all-day use at checkout, pharmacy or library counters.
The scan engine maintains 100 scans per second continuously rather than only in short bursts, keeping queue lines moving during peak hours. Built-in decoding lets the device edit and format data before it reaches the host, reducing software overhead on the POS terminal. The housing survives repeated 4-foot drops onto concrete, so daily knocks on a busy counter do not interrupt operation. Power draw stays at 80 mA from the 5 V USB bus, so no external supply is needed.
Businesses moving from single-line laser wands gain omnidirectional reading without alignment hassle, while the CCD engine has no moving parts to wear out. The jump is worth it when the workflow demands reliable contact reads on damaged or poorly printed labels and when the budget rules out 2D area imagers. It is not suited for operations that must capture QR codes, Data Matrix or mobile screen barcodes, nor for environments needing wireless mobility or presentation-style hands-free scanning.
