A wired 1D wand scanner with laser emulation and a replaceable sapphire tip for low-volume barcode reading
The UNITECH MS120 is a corded wand barcode scanner built for low-volume 1D scanning tasks. Its pen-like stainless steel body weighs 0.33 kg and uses a laser light source to read linear symbologies. The device connects through a Wand Emulation cable interface, making it suited for retail, library or light industrial workflows where simplicity and durability matter.
The scanner draws power and transmits data over its fixed cable, so no battery charging or wireless pairing is required. Wand Emulation output lets it drop into legacy hosts that expect a pen-style signal without extra drivers. The 9-pin squeeze connector secures the link, while the lack of moving parts reduces mechanical failure points in dusty or high-vibration settings.
The engine reads Code 39 full ASCII, EAN 13 and 9 with add-ons, UPC-A/E with add-ons, Code 11, Code 93, Code 128, Codabar, MSI/Plessey, Interleaved 2 of 5, Standard 2 of 5, China Postal Code, Italian Pharmacy and reversed labels. Faded, low-contrast or extra-wide barcodes scan reliably, but the wand cannot capture 2D codes such as QR or Data Matrix, limiting use to traditional linear formats.

The wand emulation outputs a digital signal directly from the laser optics, so the limit is the operator sweep speed across the barcode rather than an internal decode buffer.
With no moving parts and a simple laser diode, it runs silently and generates negligible heat even after continuous operation.
The cable terminates in a 9-pin squeeze connector, so the host needs a matching 9-pin serial port or a compatible serial-to-USB adapter.
